THANKFUL THURSDAY

I have so much to be thankful but a year ago yesterday we became like many other Americans owning a piece of the American dream. We had signed the big stack of papers that let us to own a little piece (maybe a door) of our HOME. I can't believe that it has been a year. Where does the time go???????

The last year in this house has seen a lot of the kids going in and out the doors, friends over, a lot of nights sitting outside by the fires, a lot of bottles of wines,a lot of smiles, a lot of tears and a lot of memories...I am very thankful

ANOTHER UPDATE ABOUT THE TRIP

Hopefully I can finish the update about the hospital....we get into the new room which is not very big....they bring in the air purifier for her. I ask for the chair/cot that I have slept on the night before....they say there is nothing but the chair that you sit in....and bring a wooden chair for my feet...yeah me....no phone, no bed great evening ahead for me......

We have a visitor from the program and we end up talking for a while then then he leaves after bringing us juice and kosher cake....what a lovely combination...but the thought was there.

Time passes and I watch a movie and daughter #1 sleeps...about 11:30 pm she wakes up and starts in about how she wants to go home...which I totally understand but you should not be using the oxygen and I try explaing that you are not moving air in your lungs....And if you want to go home you need to get rid of the 0xygen and calm down a little....

So, she starts yelling at me and swearing and I tell her I can't take it that I'm leaving...I start packing my stuff up and if you know me I always over pack so as I am walking out the door with 3 bags with movies and 2 video players and my purse, who is walking in the door as I walk out the door...you got it her doctor...so he asks what going on and I say we are arguing and I'm leaving...

I go sit in the waiting room near the elevators and when he is done he comes and sits near me...His mother is there by the way she is visiting out of town...and we are talking about the steroids and the medicine that daughter #1 is on in the mean time we hear what sounds like a baby and then a big wailing cry, that the nurse comes and looks for me.....I tell her to tell daughter #1, that I will return in a few minutes..in the mean time she is texting people and telling them I left her...just great....

Well, I return to the room and then spend the night in the chair and in her bed, back to the chair, and to her hospital bed...All real comfortable for a pleasant evenings sleep. So morning comes and we have visitors to make sure everything is fine from daughter's #1 text messaging....

I then start to walk the city looking for the c*ngular store, after 25 minutes and asking about 5 different people inculding a U*P*S man, a tourist with a map. And me going all different directions, I end up finding the cell store and buying a cheap phone so that I had least something to use while I was still there...I order my phone so when I get home I get a new refurbish phone waiting for me...And I still have a plan to get my new I*phone...

It looks like it not going to happen that I will finish this adventure in this post.....so look for the last installment coming to you shortly..

A HELPFUL LETTER FROM THE DOG

How to wash a toilet

1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close the lid.
You may need to stand on the lid.

4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds.
Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times.
This provides a 'power-wash' and rinse'.

6. Have someone open the front door of your home.
Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift the lid.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom,
and run outside where he will dry himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

Sincerely,

The Dog

WEIGHT LOSS

Well today is the day where 6:30 am rolls around and I need to go to ww. The dreaded scale is calling my name....I am hopeful that it will be a positive experience.....
I arrive with a step in walk and hop on the scale....and the results is I had gained a pound ....not good but not that bad considering all things...

During the meeting, I explained about being out of town for a few days and the stress I have been under for the past few weeks and every thing that has happened. I didn't get weighed in for a two weeks...so as I explained a few more glasses of water this week, maybe a few more steps to walk and I will be back on the losing trail again....

The discussion was about things to make you look thinner. A few of the things was where bootcut pants, where pointie shoes and one color top and bottoms, where a belt, also if you where a fitted bottom and a loose top and vice a versus. Just a few ideas to make you feel better. Some one said stand next to some one who is heavier than you LoL and it wasn't me....

As they say next week is a new chance to change the weight the scale reports....

THANKFUL THURSDAY

\

Well another Thursday is here and I'm trying to think of one thing that I am thankful for and all the different things I could be thankful for cross my mind....Maybe it could of been the good weather when I was traveling there and back, it could of been the peace and quiet I had on the drive..It could of been my sister letting me borrow her car and the wonderful cd's she left in the car for me., and I could of been thankful for all the thoughts and prayers that were sent our way...I could of been thankful for having time saved to take time off with pay and for the person who covered my shift at work at the last moment...and I could of been thankful for people trying to keep daughter #2 busy and for my husband holding down the fort. I also could of been thankful for all the strangers along my way in my journey in Washington D.C. And for the beautiful historical sites I was able to see in Washington D.C.

AND I AM THANKFUL FOR ALL OF THESE THINGS.....BUT THE MOST THANKFUL THING IS:

FOR THE MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS WHO HELPED DAUGHTER #1, feel better to travel and be able to breathe

I'M GOING TO HAVE A GOOD DAY

Well after catching up with Pamela and Becca, I start meeting all the doctors that have been taking care of her...they all tell me she was pretty bad. She was on 6 or 7 different medicines.

While there the first night, I was able to meet the person in charge of PANIM(the program Becca was going to). Shmuly Yanklowitz what a nice up lifting person

So, the first night things are going well with daughter #1....I get to sleep in her room on a chair that folds out into a cot...not bad at all....

As the city starts to wake up...I look out her window. The view from her window shows all the people going to the metro, receiving free papers and just hurrying along.....

As I go down to get her a Starbucks(green tea with half french vanilla and whip cream)(just in case you want to order her one). I am standing at the elevator when I hear a nurse talking to her self repeating over and over I'm going to have a good day,I'm going to have a good day, I'm going to have a good day....and I decided to use that phrase for the rest of the day...I might need that for later....

I walk over to GW Bookstore to get her a hoodie and t-shirt...I also pick up a hoodie for daughter #2 and for myself you ask....don't be surprised a pack of honey halls cough drops(yahoo)

Daughter #1 and I have our moments of getting along remember it is not all cheer with her....They bring her breakfast and later I give her a banana...so time slips away with doctors, interns and respiratory therapy and before I know it is 4:00 pm. She gets a few visitors during the day and says to me take a walk to see a couple of sites while your here.

So, I ask the nurse if they are going to bring her dinner since they didn't bring her a lunch....she looks surprise and says of course they are....

So I start walking towards the Lincoln Monument....After a 20 minute walk in 97 degree weather and who knows what the humidity is....I arrive what a feeling to sitting on the steps of the Memorial where millions of people have sat or walked up the stairs...I call my friend from the steps on my cell and I feel a few drops of rain...it doesn't look like rain...so I tell my friend I probably should head back to the hospital...

A few minutes later, it starts to rain, I stand under a tree, then it start thundering and lightning...did I bring an umbrella...heck no...so I look around with all the other tourist and we all start running for a place to get cover from...I find a information booth and huddle under it with about 30 people...still getting wet...I try to check my phone and guess what it doesn't work....Great I'm in a city where I don't really know anyone well enough to call and the few people I do know I don't have a phone to use.....

The people who I'm standing with don't speak English and it is pouring like cats and dogs....Finally, after 45 minutes it lets up so I can start walking back to the hospital...

I am soaked and decided to take my shoes off so at least they will stay somewhat dry. I put them into my purse and walk in my socks....well after a few blocks I can not stand it anymore and decide to put my shoes back on...my socks are so wet that I can wring out so much water and want to throw them away.....

I finally make it back to the hospital...Daughter #1 says that I looked like I feel into a pool...it was not pretty, I was swishing and squeaking....

I find out that she didn't get dinner......that's when I lose it...the nurse tells me that maybe I would like to go get her something..I was going to get her something it was just the point of it...you never brought her lunch and now dinner.

I start going to get her dinner and mine and dry clothes. I see the person in charge of the floor and I explain everything that is going on and she is going to get this solved....

During this time, they tell me they are moving her out of intensive care to a regular room...yeahhhhhhhhhhh

So after we eat our kosher hot dog....they bring her tray as we are being moved to her new room...

and remember I have no phone.....

more later,

GETTING THERE IS HALF THE BATTLE

I drop daughter #2 at the daycare and leave with tears in both of our eyes. I did leave a little love letter for her for later and then start off on my journey...not knowing what this trip will bring...as I drive it is a beautiful day, the sun is shinning , my sisters car is filled up. I have some good tunes cranking on the Cd's and I have a few healthy snacks at hand...(bananas, oranges, 1 package of ww cookies, and gummy worms, lowfat granala bars)

What a beautiful country we live in... The Allegheny Mountains are very green this time of year. As they say take a moment to enjoy the view

The country side in Maryland is also very stunning...And as I am driving, I count how many states I can say I have been in.....maybe I didn't stay long but it counts

a. Ohio
b. Illinois
c. Wisconsin
d. Hawaii
e. Pennsylvania
f. Indiana
g. Maryland
h. West Virginia
i. Michigan
j. New York
k. California

and I can say I have been to Washington,D.C. (I know not a state) and Canada.

Also, along the way I drove past the town where Post Secret are mailed to...you don't know how bad I wanted to look for his mailbox....

I finally arrived in DC at 3:30 as I walked up to the Hospital doors, I was very nervous not sure what to expect....I stop to ask someone where the front door was to go into the hospital....as I am standing there she tells me that they have alot of different buildings and she could be in anyone of them...so I pull out my trusty phone and call to find out which building and that I am in the wrong hospital... I am standing at Georgetown University Hospital and not George Washington University Hospital where she is at....

Well at this point I lose it..I start to cry....the nice women takes the phone and finds out where I need to go...after that she takes me to get my parking ticket validated...(thank g-d) I had to pay 2.00 for 10 minutes... then she
prayed for me and my daughter....very thoughtful....we confer with a police officer to make sure she got me the right directions.

So, me and my trusty GPS system start heading for the right hospital....after a lot of wrong turns and re-calculates....I finally pull up to the hospital, I have to park the car(a block away). I leave my stuff in the car and walk towards the hospital...as I stand at the corner, here is a picture of what I see

There is a cart selling kosher hot dogs, someone has a stand selling sheets for 20.00
and someone else is selling flowers and then a open market is going on....Also a stop for the metro called Foggy bottom. (I know it sounds like something from Harry Potter) I walk into the hospital and find out where the Intensive care unit is...(yes, I held this info back from my readers).....they tell me she is on the second floor my heart starts pumping harder and then they ask where my id is(every time you go on the elevator you need to show it to them)...I get to the floor finally and find the unit and I have to wait...they are doing a procedure on her...as you sit there wondering how sick is she and what are they doing to her....I wanted to bust in those doors and take matters into my own hands...but I sit as tears well up into my eyes....finally they call me in...they had been trying to put an iv into her hand...I walk into her room and she is laying there with oxygen on and crying because of the procedure...I go over and hug her and tears are filling up in my eyes

Pamela introduces her self to me and explains what is going on...

I need to take a break and post more later

JUST A QUICK SMILE TO YOUR FACES

Just have a minute thought I'd send a smile your way

Dear Pastor,

I walked down the busy footpath, knowing I was late for an important meeting when my eye fell upon one of those unfortunate, homeless vagabonds that are found in every city these days.

Wearing what can only be describes as rags, carrying every worldly possession in two plastic bags, my heart was touched by this person's condition.

Some people turned to stare. Others quickly looked away as if the sight would somehow contaminate them.

Recalling some long ago Sunday school admonition to 'care for the sick, feed the hungry, and clothe the naked.' I was moved by some powerful inner urge to reach out to this unfortunate person.

Yes, where some people saw only rags, I saw a hidden beauty. A small voice inside my head called out, 'Reach out, reach out and touch this person'!

GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITRY HOSPIITAL

That's right patients and visitors, Again, daughter#1 has been at George Washington University Hospital twice, (I did send her to see the sites of Washington, but I think I should have said not the hospital)BUT this time they decided she needed to stay for a short visit.....

After Saturday's visit they said to relax, stay inside instead of going out as they think that is what is setting her Asthma off...so her and her chaperon went to China town and the movies. While at the movies she wasn't feeling good and another trip to the ER....but this time they are keeping her. They feel it is due to allergies and that Washington is very smoggy and humid right now has sent the breathing haywire....

I need to remember that this is where she needs to be at this time...and they don't need me there (I did ask).

But I want to say thank-you to her chaperon, (that's her picture above)she has gone up and above the call of duty she has been with daughter #1, since the beginning with every thing going on(here wanting to leave and now the asthma attacks)and I had called this am and she spent the night with her....Thank you for everything you have done for her...I need to send something special to her for a thank you....so any ideas

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME

Well today my friend and I are going to see our INDIANS play against the Tampa Ray...at 8 am this morning it was raining and I thought for sure we would not get to see the game. But Cleveland weather is like that one minute something and the next minute something else.

Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run homer and drove in three for the second straight day, and the Indians received five hitless innings of relief from their bullpen to finish off the four-game sweep. Jeremy Sowers allowed two runs over four innings, walking seven and striking out eight -- both career highs.

The game was great, the sun was warm. We were trying to get sun so we kept moving our seats in the sun...So I worked on my tan and the TRIBE WON. Yeah 4 in a row we swept them at home.

Also, a little update on daughter #1. She is feeling better and was going to the movie and lunch in China town. I am going to overnight her medicine and call the allergist in the am and see what he says to do.

MOTIVATION STRAGEY

I know I owe you an update on daughter #1...it is still to stressful to even put it in words regarding this past week...but I can let you know, I got a phone call from her saying she was having trouble breathing with her asthma...suggested she take a trip to the ER...after a couple of hours they ended up giving her two breathing treatments with benadryl and said it was due to her allergies a different environment is which is what caused it.

Today was weigh in at ww, so 6:30 am came before I knew it, so today's motivation talk was on motivation strategy. We need to remember PERSEVERANCE IS NOT A LONG ROAD. IT IS MANY SHORT RACES AFTER ONE ANOTHER. Just like the weight gain...it will take a while to get this off. Short races one after another.....

So, I know you are wondering if I lost this week or gained....I can say with pride I lost, lost, lost 3.6....yeah for me.....for a total of 10.6....for 3 weeks....not to bad...so on to another lost hopefully for next week let's keep our fingers crossed.

THANKFUL THURSDAY

Today is thankful Thursday and it has been another long week due to struggling with daughter #1 and I still can't even post it as of yet as I am still very upset over it all. So, I had to think long and hard about what I am thankful for this week and even if it is something little it will work. Well, one of my co-workers went on vacation this week. (I have two co-workers and I am the lead in the room) (in case you don't know, I work at a daycare center and the room I am in, is the baby room for infants from 6 weeks to 9 months.)

So, I was able to take her hours from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm. I was able to see her side of what happens in the morning even setting the alarm off and having to call the security company and the police (yeah me). I got to see the morning is before I come in and how busy at times it is...I am thankful I had a week of stepping in someone else's shoes and appreciate those shoes. I look forward to going back to my shift...even though I would love to take these hours....,I enjoy leaving at 3:30...maybe some day..

COOKOUT THAT WASN'T

Today we were going to have a cookout at my parents when a half hour before we are suppose to arrive, my mother calls telling me she is at the hospital. Here I am thinking that she took my dad (a whole other story) and here it is for her.

She had tried moving a end table that she didn't even have empty and heard something crack...of course she is in a great amount of pain. So, my dad takes her to the hospital....10 hours later she is finally released. The verdict is that she did not break any bones but she has a mass above where the pain site is... They feel that she a blood clot or bruise or even some torn ligaments so they had to check her platelets before they can released her...she is on her way home now with a prescription for some pain medicine and a request to call her doctor in the am.

But back to the cookout so why my mother is gone, my sisters decide to go up in shifts. My sister(the nurse)goes up first....so my dad comes home. Then the other sister(nursing home management)goes up. So,the nurse comes back to my parents by this time we have set up the appetizers. Well, we decided instead of hot dogs and hamburgers we end up having just hot dogs. We ended up eating inside as the temp was unbearable. After dinner my brother goes up and does his shift...and it worked out that I didn't have to go up..(yeah me)

It is late and I am going to bed (I am opening up in the morning and have to be there at 6:30 am) (yuck)....Just for the record, daughter #1 is still complaining about wanting to come home...doesn't she see is staying there until the 27th. Have a great evening....and lets hope tomorrow is a better day

WEIGHT LOSS POST

Well here it Saturday morning and I went to ww again at 6:30 am....It has been a stressful week and I did go out for dinner on Thursday night...I need to tell you it was delicious..It was a Japanese restaurant and it was a buffet. Let me tell you it was very hard not to keep going back and back and the positive thing is I didn't go for the desserts which looked marvelous...

We also went to the movies this week to see Walle and let me tell you there is nothing better than popcorn and butter from the movies.....lets say it was probably not a good thing to do that before weigh in........

So, to help me I am going to do a list of positives and negatives to keep me in line for next week....

List of Positive things I did this week:
I watched what I had eaten
I did drink all of my water

UPDATE #2 ABOUT DAUGHTER #1

Well, we have left her at the security area and go to my parents as they are watching daughter #2. Before I could get out of the door I have received a couple of texts that she is pis_ed off at me. Then she calls at 8:10 when she should of have boarded the plane and says that the flight has been cancelled. WHAT, WHAT....Thank goodness the friend from our Temple that is also participating in the program has been told what to do in these types of situations as I had not even talked to her about this....(who can talk when she is screaming or crying)

She gets them a flight booked at 4:30 which would get them there at 5:50(the program starts at 2:00) and they try to get a standby flight for 11:30.

So, off to work I go and at 10:30 she calls saying that a nice older couple who would give them their seats if they couldn't get on the plane by standby. Either way they are getting to Washington before 2...(how nice people are to help them out in a situation like that)

She is on the plane and has landed..Get the first call of so many that I can't even count them any more. You may have guessed it, her luggage is lost and did we even think to put clothes in her carry on.....of course, NOT.

And in the mean time, I am calling the program trying to find out if things are that bad that I need to fly her home asap. I was told her luggage would be there that evening as the poor girl doesn't even have sheets for her bed (they are staying at Georgetown dorms and we need to supply sheets, blankets, pillows)but they have a microwave and a refrigator.

Some one lends her sheets...she makes it thru the night and in the morning she is calling me begging again to come home. I will do anything you say mommy and please help her are a few of the examples of texts and calls I receive from her. Plus I have no clothes or anything else for that matter..More calls start pouring in please mom I want to come home and I am not going to participant in anything.....and I'm going to get myself kicked out (all this from a student whose has a gpa of 3.8) I can't even tell you about the sobbing going on....

Her luggage shows up after going to Tampa Florida over night. You would things would get better for her and me.....right. Then daughter#1 decides to get the family involved calling her aunts and threatening to call papa...She is coming home one way or another. She is not staying.

I think somewhere on Tuesday with her mouth going so much, I had called her boyfriend and told him he better talk to her that this was about her and not about him or me. She needed to try at least a few days.. (figuring once she has settled in she would be better) I also had told him that if they didn't straighten up that I would turn his phone off and text messaging. (he is out of town as well and I let him borrow our spare cell phone)

He calls back and leaves me a message that states he is done trying to talk to her and doesn't know what to do...

Well missy got a little bit big for her britches and hung up on me..Once to often and screaming at me. I then called the phone company and did that...(Of course, 3 hours later it was back up and running) but to prove a point.

And just think this only Tuesday.....

Enjoy a picutre from Washington D.C.

IN HONOR OF JULY 4TH

Today is July 4th and instead of 5 question Friday I thought about what it takes to become a United States citizen.

When immigrants want to become Americans, they must take a civics test as part of their naturalization interview before a Citizenship and Immigration Services (INS) officer. The questions are usually selected from a list of 100 sample questions that prospective citizens can look at ahead of the interview (though the examiner is not limited to those questions). Candidates are not given multiple choices in the naturalization interview, which is conducted orally.

Check out the test....Here is the link just copy and paste and good luck(hope your accepted in the United States)(lol) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13442226/
I know I need to go with my first instinct and I need to remember how hard it is to pass that test for all immigrants that want to become a United States citizen.

So, I miss daughter #1 and hope she is enjoying the sites of Washington Monument and the music that is being played there along with all the beautiful fireworks tonight so that picture is in her honor...

Also, tonight when we are sitting up looking at the stars watching the fireworks I hope that we all pray for our service personnel here and overseas and their families for protecting our country and our freedom.....

GOD BLESS AMERICA

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home

UPDATE #1 ABOUT DAUGHTER #1

Okay, that is here on the left....where should I begin...well, as they say "Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start...." In the spring there was an opportunity to go to Washington, DC with a group of Jewish students from all over the US. They would get 80 hours of volunteering hours(which could lead to a scholarship advantage)along with experience of living away from home for a month and touring the big city. She was accepted into the program and we were able to get a grant from an anonymous donor in the Cleveland area. Along with our Temple's help the cost was very minimal on our end.

So, at some point before we signed the grant papers and such I had asked her to make sure she really wanted to participant in this program and to think about it because I didn't want the drama and stress that went along with this. So, she thought about it and said she would go.

Then a 4 days before she leaves she tells me she doesn't want to go....What, you are going. So, the whole weekend she was crying and yelling she's not going...I told her that I would be strong for the both of us and it was going to be okay. Finally she's packed and things are bought.

It is early Monday morning, I am taking her to the airport. Along with the rain pouring down so were my tears. Her sister and I get here in the airport were you can only go so far...so we had to say goodbye...which was so hard.

Look for the next update....

THANKFUL THURSDAY

First, before we get today's topic....I want to announce what I really have had my heart on and would love to have. I have been waiting for the price to drop on these babies so I am about a year away from this purchase (due to just renewing my contract with the phone company) but I am so there. I know someone who has one of the older ones (just about 6 months) but now I want one of these badly with the price dropping. So without further ado....

So, keep a watch out for my baby because I can't wait and when I get it maybe I will let you hold it(only for a minute or so)....And don't get it before me because I will be so jealous (lol)

So, now for THANKFUL THURSDAY.....It has been a hard and longggggggg week which I need to still post about...but let's say it was veryyyyyyyyyyyyy stressful and still going on. So, I am thankful for my friends at work. They have been there for me thru the tears (and with some of their own thrown in)and the support. With that I am very grateful to have friends who care about me and what's going on in my life. May each and every one of you be blessed..

American Potato Salad Favorites

POINTS® Value: 2
Servings: 8
Preparation Time: 12 min
Cooking Time: 9 min
Level of Difficulty: Easy
Summer’s not complete without this classic side dish. Ours has buttery Yukon Gold potatoes, hard-boiled eggs and a splash of vinegar for extra flavor.

Ingredients
2 pound Yukon Gold potato(es), peeled, cut into 1-inch chunks
2 large egg(s), hard-boiled
2 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup plain fat-free yogurt, Greek-style recommended
1/4 cup fat-free mayonnaise
3 Tbsp Vlasic Sweet Relish (No Sugar Added), or similar product
1 1/2 tsp McNeil Nutritionals SPLENDA No Calorie Sweetener
1/2 tsp table salt
1/2 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/3 cup red onion(s), chopped
Instructions
Put potatoes in a large saucepan and cover with 2 inches of water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until potatoes are fork-tender, about 7 to 9 minutes; drain and cool slightly.

Meanwhile, in a large bowl, using a fork, mash yolk from 1 of the eggs with vinegar until smooth. Add yogurt, mayonnaise, relish, Splenda, salt and pepper; stir until blended.

Add potatoes, celery and onion; toss to mix and coat. Chop remaining egg white and egg; gently fold into potato salad. Cover and refrigerate until chilled. Yields about 3/4 cup per serving.
